LENA WILLEMARK


Lena Willemark is a Swedish traditional music fiddler, singer, and composer, who combines elements of folk and jazz. Don't tell anyone, but she can also talk to cows. Born in Dalarna,  Sweden Willemark grew up in the forest with the region's folk music, and then in Stockholm in the 1970s also had contact to jazz. For several decades Willemark has been widening her scope through collaborations with jazz musicians and other artists. She recording Nordan with Ale Möller, winning in 1994 both a Grammis and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik.  She is also a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. She joins us in Iceland with first a call for the cows to come home, then a solo performance on a black sand beach, and finally in a wonderful and moving collaboration with Voces Thules.
